Esplanade Ridge Revisited

Here is a repainted version of a much smaller piece I did awhile ago. Here is a link to the original version. This time out, I painted in acrylics with a less colorful palette.

Buddy Holly by Rick Geary

I know I usually use this region of cyberspace to present my own work, but today I had to share the latest in a series of commissioned illustrations done by my pal Rick Geary. Every time one shows up in the mail, I am more amazed. Rick is an immensely talented artist best known for his series of true crime graphic novels published by NBM. Recently, Rick has started covering 20th century crimes and is at work on the World War I era 'Axe-Man' serial murder case based right here in New Orleans. Please take a look at his work. It's great stuff that you'll enjoy.

King of Pop

I did this piece as an assignment for a screenprinting client. I was pretty happy with the finished product and thought I'd share it here. It's available as a print in my Ebay store. Just click on the link for 'My Ebay Store' on the right side of this page.

Terrence Simien painting

Here's a new painting of Grammy winning Zydeco musician Terrence Simien. I painted this one in acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas. I've posted a handful of shots of the paintings in progress. I had a lot of fun with it and especially like the way it turned out.

The End of an Era & Small Treasures

Just as K&B drugstores have seen their last day, the Bluebird Cafe on Prytania Street has ceased operation as of May 31st. My friends at the Bluebird created an institution that lasted for over 20 years, but all good things end and what better way to go out while still on top of their game.

In their honor, my first in a series of 'small treasures' paintings (4" x 4") is dedicated to the Bluebird Cafe.

Corgi redux

Well, not really redux. It's a different Corgi this time. Commissioned to match the small portrait of the departed Harry from last year.

Habaneros in pastel

Here is a revisited version of an oil painting I did months ago. This time, I'm working in pastel on 9 x 12" Canson paper.

Pink Sky

Here is another image in pastel on Canson paper again. It is from a reference photo, also. I really like the bright, impressionistic feeling of these small pastel drawings.

Swamp at Sunset

Here's the next pastel drawing. It is also on Canson paper with an image area of approximately 7 x 10. Enjoy.

Tuscany

Here is a small soft pastel drawing on Canson paper. I like the impressionstic feeling of it. I'm going to work on a few of these and post them as I complete them. It is from a stock photo of the Tuscan countryside.

Here's a new image I created. The tradition of horse drawn carriage is a long one in New Orleans. I'm offering this as a canvas giclee signed and varnished.

Esplanade Ridge Shotgun House - Sold

I experimented with a few different techniques on this one, exaggerating the perspective and painting it a bit more loosely than usual. I even used a palette knife in a few areas. The reference is a photo I shot a year ago near the Fairgrounds.

Mardi Gras Flambeaux!

Here's my latest finished piece. It's for a 'Carnival' themed show at Esopi Galleries in Baton Rouge. This one is 15" x 30" and painted in acrylic. The Flambeaux are a long standing New Orleans Mardi Gras tradition dating back to pre-electrically lighted parades. You can read more about them here. It will be for sale at the gallery beginning on February 7th.

This painting is available as a signed, 12 x 24" canvas giclee print for $195 plus $15 shipping.
