Esplanade Ridge Shotgun House - Sold

I experimented with a few different techniques on this one, exaggerating the perspective and painting it a bit more loosely than usual. I even used a palette knife in a few areas. The reference is a photo I shot a year ago near the Fairgrounds.

Mardi Gras Flambeaux!

Here's my latest finished piece. It's for a 'Carnival' themed show at Esopi Galleries in Baton Rouge. This one is 15" x 30" and painted in acrylic. The Flambeaux are a long standing New Orleans Mardi Gras tradition dating back to pre-electrically lighted parades. You can read more about them here. It will be for sale at the gallery beginning on February 7th.

This painting is available as a signed, 12 x 24" canvas giclee print for $195 plus $15 shipping.

Gator on Wood

Here's my first piece experimenting with liquid acrylics on wood. Sort of a cross between the old golden story books and a more contemporary cartoon style...overall, pretty retro. This is painted on plywood with Liquitex soft body acrylics using Loew Cornell American Painter brushes.

"Your Boy Can Play"

I switched back to acrylics to paint Robert Johnson's portrait and I'm still undecided which medium I like best...though I am really happy with this one. I'm sure you're all familiar with this story...He made a deal with the devil at the crossroads.

President Van Buren?

No. It's just my pal Steve Taylor. I took this picture with my phone a year ago and decided to take a shot at painting it.

Red Onion - For Sale

Finally back to painting during my busiest month. I wanted to get back into the swing by painting small again. This is one of the many still life set ups I have photographed...a red onion.

Bride of Frankenstein- For Sale

Here's another stab at a portrait. I painted this from a black and white photo of Elsa Lanchester. That's enough portraiture for a little while. I think I'm going back to inanimate objects for awhile.

Hitchock - For Sale

I've wanted to try my hand at a few portraits lately. Here's the master of suspense...painted from a black and white photo. The color is all made up from other photo reference. Overall, I'm pretty pleased. I would like it to be a little looser and more expressive, but that's part of the learning experience.

Blue Robot - For Sale

Here's a sketch I did in an attempt to use a different set of brushes. Not sure I liked them, but here's the finished result. It's a reference photo I pulled from the web on a site that sell wind up robots.

Habaneros Revisited - Sold

Back by popular demand...not really. I decided to take another stab at the orange habaneros I painted a while ago. Just a slightly different approach; and this time they're painted on stretched canvas using a slightly softer bristle brush.

Here's is another version of the famed orange pepper. I operated on this one to get a more interesting perspective. Lots of stuff in there make it harder to paint.

Bo Diddley - For Sale

Here's a portrait of the late Bo Diddley that I've wanted to do for a while. You gotta like that red jacket and his odd guitar! I painted it in oil on wrapped, stretched canvas w/ 3/4 inch stretcher bars.

Three Red Pears

I painted these in acrylic on a small linen panel. As I said earlier, jumping back to acrylics is much more difficult than I thought it would be.

Jimi Hendrix

Here's a painting I did a little while ago. It's on a 1.5" gallery wrapped canvas and painted in oils. The large, dark background makes it hard to photograph and avoid the glare.

I decided to take a shot at working in acrylics again. I've enjoyed oils so much it's hard to go back. I really liked the colors in this.
